This is a shot I took with my Nikon D100 in the spring of 2007 on a trip to Santa Barbara. I used a tri pod to set up shop on the beach and was only focusing on the pier itself. I had no intention or idea of what I was going to capture when I got home to view the images on my computer. As you can see in the photo there are 4 different birds that had dove into the water for food. After cropping and Photoshopping the image for color what you see is my final GEM. It is really true what they say about great photography of needing to be at the exact right place at the exact right time. This is truly one image that can never be duplicated which makes it quite unique in its own way. I used a Quantaray for Nikon AF 70-300 Zoom Lens with a Quantaray 2X AF Teleconverter.
San Francisco Sea Gull
This is a shot I took with my Nikon D100 in August of 2008 on a trip to San Francisco that my wife and I took. We were on the boat that took you on a tour of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. I was standing towards the rear of the boat when I noticed that a Sea Gull was just sailing next to the back of the boat and going with the wind that the boat was producing. I started shooting him with a Nikor 28mm-105mm lens at about 1pm that day. At times it seemed as if he was posing for me turning his head to the camera and letting me know that he understood what I was doing. Models come in all forms and shapes and my San Fran Sea Gull is no different. This was definitely a right place right time shot. It would be very hard to see how many boat rides it would take to duplicate this very same setting. I challenge all to try, but make sure you have a lot of time and also make sure to send invitations to the Sea Gulls to join.
Thousand Oaks Mountains
This is a photo I took with my Nikon D100 in January of 2010. We had just had a big winter storm the previous few days and the mountains, which are shown here, are actually as far as Filmore and Santa Paula. I took the shot high atop of Sunset Hills off a street called Avenida Montuoso high above Thousand Oaks. There is an empty lot next to two houses on the edge of the hillside that I shot this from. The view on that day from up there was amazing. I was lucky to capture the shot at the perfect time of day to capture the moon over the snowy mountains. The presidential plane was added for effect afterwards because this shot is very close to the Reagan Museum in Simi Valley. Notice how green the grass on the hillside is in January. In July that grass is yellow from the heat. I used a Quantaray for Nikon AF 70-300 Zoom Lens with a Quantaray 2X AF Teleconverter.
